E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial is an American science-fiction movie directed by Steven Spielberg in 1982. It was a commercial blockbuster upon its initial release and again when it was re-released in 2002.
Although Spielberg described E.T. himself as "something that only a mother could love," the film was praised by critics, beloved by cinemagoers, and has touched audiences worldwide for over 40 years.
The film was nominated for the Oscar for Best Picture at the 55th Academy Awards and won Oscars in the categories of Best Original Score, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound, and Best Sound Editing.
